Sailor Mars

I recently watched Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon (though I still have yet to get to the special), and I was pleasantly surprised to find it was rather enjoyable. It's an altogether different universe from the manga or the anime, but it really colors the characters in a way that the other two continuities could not.

Sailor Venus and Sailor Saturn have been my favorite characters in the manga and anime, but PGSM Venus was sidestepped by Sailor Mars/Hino Rei. She was always so-so to me in other versions, but this interpretation of her really struck a cord.

So... some fan art. Unlike most interpretations of the Sailor Moon characters, I'm actually rather happy with this one.

A Pretty Soldier...

A doodle from the other day. No, actually, I really do not have any time to be drawing, but, you know, lectures can sometimes allow for it.

An original senshi of mine that is a product of my early days in the Sailor Moon fandom. She's now makes cameos in various original works of mine, under the name Shaheeno, but lately thoughts of her and her senshi story have been drifting back to me. Because I have been thinking about actually producing that story in my spare time (if I ever have it again), her true senshi name shall remain a secret, for it would say far too much about her =)

Pretty Soldier Sailor Mercury

I was in a fan art mood. This is a slightly more realistic interpretation of Sailor Mercury, as she would appear as an adult. I suppose in the end she came out looking a little "baby faced", but I feel like it makes a satisfying paradox with her level of maturity and the elegance of her character.

I never thought much of her when I watched the series many years ago, but coming back to it again after all of this time, I have a newfound appreciation for her character.

Backlog

I recently made a CD cover for one of the A Capella groups on my campus. Their group promotes international harmony by learning and performing music from a variety of languages and cultures. In light of this, they entitled their album "The Silk Road," recalling the famous roads in history that connected many cultures across the Asian and African continents. They are an all-female A Capella group, and as such only women were drawn for the cover.

Each of the women features a different major empire; left to right, we have Rome, Persia (Sassanid Empire, prior to the Muslim conquests), and Tang Dynasty China. I fudged the timeline a little bit so not all of these empires coexisted in the same Era, but then, the silk road was older than each and outlasted all of them in one form or another. Furthermore, when all you have at your disposal is a Google search engine, it isn't easy researching women's dress from those eras and confirming its accuracy.

This is the sample image I made for them; it still has yet to be finalized.

Traeka WIP2

Her nose is the right size now, but everything else disturbs me. This is not Traeka...

Traeka WIP

I seem to have abandoned Shaheeno completely. Frankly, I'm working really hard to get the hang of digital painting again, because I have some important projects to work on over break D:

The following are WIP of Traeka, a character from The Loonibin. I was originally going to paint her with a much more wicked expression, but then I rather liked seeing this side of her when it came out, so I kept it. DO NOT BE DECEIVED, haha.

Unfortunately her nose is too small D: I must go back and fix that, but I already spent so much time upon it... except for maybe here eyes, actually there is nothing in this picture which is completely finished.

Kes speedpaint

Kes Pendalwen, another character from my Loonibin project. I originally thought about doing a background, but then I rather like the dramatic white; leaves you to wonder what she's looking at.

Yet another speedpaint. I tried to return to my Shaheeno picture but was once again unsatisfied, so I pulled this out instead. Unfortunately her jacket is more nicely painted than the rest of her....

Done with Painter Essentials 4 and Bamboo Fun.

Halivyan speedpaint

I took a break from another painting in order to whip this out. I was having trouble with the facial work on the other one, so I decided to refresh on something else.

Speed-paint, really; it took only about 1 1/2 hrs. I shocked myself, and I decided not to pursue it further since I was actually happy with it, hahaha.

Character is Halivyan, from my Loonibin project. She's dangerous.
Done with Painter Essentials 4 and Bamboo Fun. I really want to buy Painter...
